This image was taken in the famous "barber shop cell" at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA. The cell was not a barber shop, but the chair moved from its original location in the prison and displayed here. It is a favorite subject of photographers. The penitentiary was a first of its kind utilizing a radial arm type design with a central hub and "arms" of cellblocks radiating from the central hub. It was in operation from 1829 to 1971 and even housed Al Capone for a time. The building is a US National Historic Landmark and is open to the public 7 days a week.
I am a photographer located in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. I have had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember. My first camera, which I received for my 11th birthday, was a little Kodak that took the 110 film cartridges. I used all my allowance money for film and processing. I have upgraded my camera a few times since those days and now I enjoy wandering my great state (and places beyond) photographing places that may not be here forever. I specialize in nature and landscape photography.

I can picture myself in that chair in dim light and the 'barber' standing over me with his straight razor!
