Artist's Description

The Port Norris Methodist was established in 1823 with home services and had a building built in 1872. The original church burned down and a new one was built at the present site in 1886. This church was torn down in 1924 and the current church was built in 1925.

Port Norris is a small unincorporated community within Commerical Township in Cumberland County, NJ. Port Norris is located close to the Delaware Bay and came to prominance during the heyday of the oystering industry. The oystering industry reached its peak in 1955, declining by 1957 due to oyster pathogen Haplosporidium nelsoni (MSX) which killed 90% of the oysters. There is still an oystering industry but it is much smaller than it used to be and many little towns in the area are now ghost towns.

About Kristia Adams

Kristia Adams

I am a photographer located in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. I have had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember. My first camera, which I received for my 11th birthday, was a little Kodak that took the 110 film cartridges. I used all my allowance money for film and processing. I have upgraded my camera a few times since those days and now I enjoy wandering my great state (and places beyond) photographing places that may not be here forever. I specialize in nature and landscape photography.
