Description
Weymouth Furnace is a beautiful county park located in Mays Landing, NJ. The remains of an old furnace provides a glimpse back into the history of southern New Jersey. South Jersey is rich in bog iron ore from which iron could be extracted. During the 18th and 19th century, these furnaces arose on the many creeks and rivers in Southern New Jersey. Many ruins can still be seen in the area. Iron production started at this furnace in 1802 and peaked in the 1850's.
