Description
You would never know by looking at these beautiful flowers that carnivorous beast lurks within! These are the flowers of the insectivorous threadleaf sundew. The stems secrete a sweet sticky substance that traps insects. Once trapped the leaf secretes an enzyme which breaks down the insect into nutrients for the plant to absorb. These plants are common in wet areas of the New Jersey Pine Barrens.
