Description
Philadelphia's City Hall is one of the most stunning examples of architecture in the city. There are so many details incorporated into this building. Every time I visit, I discover something new. This doorway is located in the courtyard area of City Hall. I have "seen" this door many times and have even photographed it from afar. I always saw the lion but never noticed the snake handle on the door. Every part of this building is a work of art. While trying to research some of the history of the building I found that the city father's actually talked of demolishing this national treasure in the 1950's. They decided against it, not because of the history and beauty of the building but because the cost of demolition would have bankrupted the city due to its masonry construction. Whatever the reason, thank goodness this wonderful structure is still around for all to enjoy. I hope it will be around for many more years.
