Description

The Devil's Postpile National Monument is located within the Inyo National Forest. Nestled in California's Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains, this striking geologic formation was made when the eruption and uniform cooling of basalt lava formed hexagonal columns. A subsequent glacial event exposed and polished the columns leaving them as seen today.
