Star trails captured over the long abandoned military bunker on the beach at Cape May Point. This image is over 100 individual long exposure images stacked to show the movement in the stars.

Battery 223 was built in 1942 during the early months of World War II as the coast of New Jersey was a hotspot of German U-boat activity. It was never meant to be permanent, but the huge log pilings that hold the massive concrete structure have proved to withstand the test of time and elements. The bunker was built to hold munitions and as a replacement for Panama Mounts which once held four 155mm coastal artillery guns. Battery 223 was built about 900 feet from the water on high ground. It was covered in sod to camouflage it with the surrounding landscape. Due to changes in the tide, the bunker is closer to the water now and you can no longer walk underneath. During low tide the Panama Mounts can still be seen in the water.

I am a photographer located in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. I have had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember. My first camera, which I received for my 11th birthday, was a little Kodak that took the 110 film cartridges. I used all my allowance money for film and processing. I have upgraded my camera a few times since those days and now I enjoy wandering my great state (and places beyond) photographing places that may not be here forever. I specialize in nature and landscape photography.
