Description
Love is in the air on a warm spring day in the pine barrens of New Jersey. This male Eastern Box Turtle was trying to woo his mate, but she did not appear to be in the mood. Box turtles are named because they are able to close a hinged portion of their plastron shut to protect themselves from predators or possibly unwanted romantic encounters. This female is not totally closed in so hopefully the male will win her with his charm!
