Description
The Ring-necked duck (Aythya collaris) is a frequent visitor to New Jersey in the winters. These diving ducks breed in the Northern United States and Canada and spends its winters in the more southerly states. The Ring-necked duck is named for its cinnamon brown neck ring which is difficult to see. The bill is a much better distinguishing field mark for this species. This duck was seen at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Oceanville, NJ.
