Artist's Description

Mount Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia is a beautiful cemetery that has fallen into neglect since the death of the last board of directors member in 2011. The cemetery was subsequently closed and largely ignored. In recent years, the Friends of Mount Moriah organization was formed to provide some upkeep through donations and volunteers. The architecture in the this cemetery is amazing with many large mausoleums, intricate headstones and some notable residents including Betsy Ross.

This huge cemetery was commissioned in 1855 and soon grew to 200 acres with some reports of it being 300 acres making it the largest cemetery in Pennsylvania. Cobbs Creek Parkway was eventually built through the center of the cemetery leaving the current cemetery with 160 acres.

I did some research on this individual and he was an equestrian circus performer, hence the horse on his tombstone.

About Kristia Adams

Kristia Adams

I am a photographer located in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. I have had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember. My first camera, which I received for my 11th birthday, was a little Kodak that took the 110 film cartridges. I used all my allowance money for film and processing. I have upgraded my camera a few times since those days and now I enjoy wandering my great state (and places beyond) photographing places that may not be here forever. I specialize in nature and landscape photography.
