Description
Reedy Island Rear Range Lighthouse was erected as part of a channel dredging project. The port of Philadelphia was limited to smaller ships due to the shallow depth of the Delaware River. The channel was dredged to allow larger ships to pass. The old channel did not always line up with the newer channel and some of the older range lights needed to be relocated and some newer ones built. The Reedy Island Range Light began operating in 1904.
