Description
Historic Walnford is a beautiful historic site which is part of the Monmouth County Park System (New Jersey). I was struck with the beauty and quiet of of this wonderful site. The impeccably maintained park has many wonderful buildings that are open for public viewing. The village started in 1734 with a gristmill. A Philadelphia Quaker merchant, Richard Waln, saw an ad for the property which offered 3 mills, blacksmith, large house, 5 tenant houses, farm buildings, and farmland. He bought the property in 1772 and named it Walnford. The carriage house is one of the buildings that is open for viewing. It houses old harness, carriages,sleighs and saddles. The inside of the building is wonderfully kept. These bridles were hanging as if they had just been used.
