These beautiful trees were planted by the Civilian Conservation Corp back in the 1930's in Greenbank State Park, Greenbank, NJ. In 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed to combat the country's problem of diminishing natural resources by forming a workforce made up of unemployed workers. During the Great Depression, this was a welcome way to employ hundreds of thousands of young men at the start. Before the CCC ended, over three million young men engaged in a massive salvage operation described as the most popular experiment of the New Deal. The CCC planted an estimated 3 billion trees between the years of 1933 and 1942 to help preserve resources for future generations. Many stand of these trees still exist. This stand is located in Greenbank,State Park with another stand located a few miles away in Bass River State Park.
I am a photographer located in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. I have had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember. My first camera, which I received for my 11th birthday, was a little Kodak that took the 110 film cartridges. I used all my allowance money for film and processing. I have upgraded my camera a few times since those days and now I enjoy wandering my great state (and places beyond) photographing places that may not be here forever. I specialize in nature and landscape photography.
