Description
This lookout tower still stands after more than century, continuing to keep a watchful eye on the Delaware River. A system of forts once lined the strategically important Delaware River. Construction started on the Fort Mott in Pennsville, NJ, in 1876. Troops were stationed there from 1897 to 1922 but the fort became obsolete with the construction of the more modern Fort Saulsbury shortly after WWI. The fort is now part of the New Jersey State Park system.
