Artist's Description

I shot the YMCA building at Fort Hancock on a very misty, foggy spring morning. I thought the black and white suited the mood of this image.

Fort Hancock is an old military base located within the Gateway National Recreation Area. It was built in 1859 and was in use for over 100 years. It was most active during World War II and fully decommissioned in the 1970's. The YMCA building included a gym, a reading room, a game room and a refreshment stand. There is also a handball court outside the building. The upper level of the building had guest rooms to house visiting families for military personnel.

About Kristia Adams

Kristia Adams

I am a photographer located in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. I have had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember. My first camera, which I received for my 11th birthday, was a little Kodak that took the 110 film cartridges. I used all my allowance money for film and processing. I have upgraded my camera a few times since those days and now I enjoy wandering my great state (and places beyond) photographing places that may not be here forever. I specialize in nature and landscape photography.
