Description
The Cranberry Substation was started as a joint effort between the New Jersey Experiment Station and the New Jersey Cranberry Growers' Association to fund a full-time cranberry research facility. In the early 1900's, cranberries were an important commercial crop for New Jersey and remain so to this day. The experiment station was in operation at this location from 1918 to 1927. The substation was a teaching and learning facility. Scientists would share their findings with growers in order to improve the crop and industy. Later research included blueberries. Today the substation still exists, although at a different location and continues to serve the blueberry and cranberry growers of New Jersey.
