Artist's Description

The Eastern Box Turtle, Terrapene carolina carolina is a subspecies of the hinged-shelled turtles known as box turtles. This turtle is native to the eastern United States. I found this little guy in the NJ Pine Barrens. While not endangered, they face an uncertain future due to habitat loss, mortality by road death and people collecting them for pets. Please leave these guys in the wild. They have a tough enough future without people taking them out of their natural habitat. If you find one in the road, help it cross by carrying it across the road in the direction it was traveling.

About Kristia Adams

Kristia Adams

I am a photographer located in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. I have had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember. My first camera, which I received for my 11th birthday, was a little Kodak that took the 110 film cartridges. I used all my allowance money for film and processing. I have upgraded my camera a few times since those days and now I enjoy wandering my great state (and places beyond) photographing places that may not be here forever. I specialize in nature and landscape photography.
