Description
The Appalachian Trail Museum is located in Pine Grove Furnace State Park in Pennsylvania. This wonderful museum house exhibits that pay homage to the pioneer trail-builders and hikers, including Earl Shaffer, Grandma Gatewood, Gene Espy, Ed Garvey, and their commitment to fitness and conservation. The museum is housed in the historic old mill building within the park.
Pine Grove Furnace marks the approximate half-way point along the 2186 mile-long Appalachian Trail which stretches through 14 states from Maine to Georgia. The ruins of a the furnace and many historic buildings are located at this park. A few of the buildings now house accommodations for hikers and vacationers. The old Ironmaster's mansion houses a hostel for affordable housing for tired hikers.
